LASIK Consultation & Co-Management

Imagine waking up in the morning and being able to see clearly without reaching for your glasses first thing. Refractive eye surgeries such as LASIK offer a life-changing solution for anyone seeking clear vision without the hassle of glasses or contacts. The decision to get LASIK surgery is a big one, but Dr. Holliday at Beckley Vision Center can help you decide. We offer LASIK consultations in Beckley, West Virginia to help you determine if LASIK or another refractive eye surgery is right for you.

What is LASIK surgery?

LASIK (laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis) surgery is a type of refractive eye surgery that uses a laser to reshape the cornea and correct vision problems such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. The procedure is quick, usually taking less than 30 minutes, and some patients experience improved vision almost immediately. Not everyone is a good candidate for LASIK surgery. Your eye doctor will need to evaluate your eyes and medical history to determine if you are eligible for the procedure.

In addition to LASIK surgery, there are other types of refractive eye surgeries available. PRK (photorefractive keratectomy) is another popular option that involves reshaping the cornea with a laser. While PRK has a longer recovery time than LASIK, it can be a better choice for individuals with thin corneas or certain corneal irregularities. Other options include LASEK (laser epithelial keratomileusis) and SMILE (small incision lenticule extraction), each with its own benefits depending on your needs.

Your refractive eye surgery consultation

During a LASIK or refractive eye surgery consultation, Dr. Holliday will closely examine your eyes to assess your suitability for surgery. He may use an advanced technology called corneal mapping to check for underlying problems with your cornea and ensure LASIK is a good option for you. Our eye doctor will consider factors such as your age, prescription strength, and overall eye health when determining your candidacy for surgery. He will also discuss potential risks and complications associated with the procedure so that you can make an informed decision about your eye care.
